Destination Stewardship

Working Together To Create World-Class Destinations

Northern BC Tourism Association (NBCTA) works with tourism stakeholders and community members from across the region to strategically create a shared and sustainable future for the tourism sector in northern BC in a collaborative and mutually beneficial way.

Destination Development Strategies

Northern British Columbia presents a vast and diverse tourism landscape, encompassing over 569,000 km² of varied geography, from coastal regions and mountains to significant headwaters and vibrant communities.

As BC's largest tourism region, it boasts more than 60 natural heritage sites and offers a rich foundation for adventure, eco-tourism, cultural, and Indigenous tourism experiences, supported by its unique natural and cultural assets.

This region, characterized by a younger demographic, holds significant potential for strategic tourism development and engagement.

Great Northern Circle Route Signage Program

In early 2021, Northern BC Tourism Association received $2.3 million through the Province's Stronger BC Economic Recovery Program, Targeted Regional Tourism Development Initiative (TRTDI), to invest in 13 regional tourism development initiatives.

The Great Northern Circle Route (GNCR) Signage Program was one of the 13 initiatives funded under a multi-phase structure to enhance visitor experiences through interpretive signage across the Northern BC region.

The success of this initiative wouldn't have been possible without the initial seed-funding from TRTDI and further support from funders and partners at all levels of government.

Indigenous Tourism

Indigenous Tourism BC and the Northern British Columbia Tourism Association work together to advance a competitive, sustainable and socially conscious Indigenous tourism industry.

The goal is to contribute to cultural understanding and economic prosperity within the northern region. The growth of the tourism industry depends on our joint efforts to ensure that Indigenous tourism is able to realize its full potential as a major cultural asset in the region.
