DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT

Iconic Product Assessments

A key element of each of the Northwest and Northeast Destination Development Strategies was the identification of iconic features around which experiences and destination identity and branding can be developed. This is particularly important for Northern BC, given that the area is in the earlier stages of tourism development and there is very low awareness about Northern BC in many markets. Overall, there is limited understanding about how special these areas are and about the types of experiences that are offered and that could be offered.

Through Destination BC's Community Adaptation Funding Program, Northern BC Tourism Association partnered with three regions in Northern BC to undertake a full Iconic Product Assessment that identifies potential infrastructure, experiences and gaps as they related to nine of the top iconic features indicated in the Destination Development Strategies.

This work will form the basis for ongoing marketing and destination development activities in our region and will also support the Destination BC Iconics Place Making process.
