BC Tourism Climate Resiliency Initiative

The BC Tourism Climate Resiliency (BCTCR) Initiative is a provincial project that focuses on building a foundational program to support a resilient tourism sector that is prepared to adapt to climate change. Sustainability doesn't have to be overwhelming - this initiative is set up to help understand sustainability and where you can make adjustments that help improve things for the planet, your people, and your profits.

There are two projects launching this week as part of the BCTCR Initiative.

Facilitated Sustainable Tourism and Climate Adaptation Planning for Tourism Businesses

This is the evolution of the BC Tourism Sustainability Network. This free program offers one-one-one, tailored support to tourism businesses looking to incorporate environmental sustainability or climate adaptation measures into their operations, strategy and storytelling.

The advisors and experts will work one-on-one with each business to help them develop a sustainability and climate adaptation road map and perform detailed assessments to identify the most impactful, customized measures for climate resiliency.

Businesses can use their completed sustainability and climate adaptation road map, an output of this program, to apply for a micro-grant of up to $15,000 to support the implementation of the customized roadmap.

Micro-Grants to support Sustainability and Climate Adaptation Plan Implementation

The micro-grants program provides up to $15,000 in micro-grant funding to implement a project or obtain sustainability certification. Organizations must already have a sustainability or climate adaptation plan and be ready to implement the recommendations into their organization by purchasing equipment, updating infrastructure, implementing new systems, or pursuing sustainability certification.

Get your organization ready to apply by reviewing the full micro-grant program guidelines [link to come] including eligibility requirements and example projects. Eligible applications will be evaluated and accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will begin accepting applications on Monday, January 29, 2024 and will close this intake period on Friday, March 8, 2024. Don’t miss out on this funding opportunity to implement lasting measures into your organization that support environmental sustainability or climate adaptation.
