Beyond the Horizon Experience Development Program Launches Along the Highway 16 Corridor

Northern BC Tourism Association is excited to launch Beyond the Horizon 2.0 – Experience Development across the Highway 16 & 37 corridors, providing a new opportunity for tourism businesses and communities to grow memorable visitor experiences with the support of dedicated industry experts.

Building on the success of the original Beyond the Horizon pilot program in Northeast BC, this next phase expands the program across the Highway 16 & 37 corridors, creating new opportunities for tourism operators from McBride to Prince Rupert and up the Cassiar Highway corridor. The program is designed to help local businesses bring their ideas to life, strengthen existing experiences, and create new reasons for visitors to explore, stay longer, and connect more deeply with Northern BC.

The Highway 16 corridor is rich with possibilities. It is a route shaped by mountains, rivers, forests, coastlines, cultures, communities, and stories. From outdoor adventure and wildlife viewing to local food, arts, heritage, Indigenous tourism, and community-based experiences, the region offers something truly special for visitors seeking authentic and meaningful travel.

Beyond the Horizon 2.0 is about helping those experiences grow.

Through the program, participating tourism operators will receive hands-on support to develop, refine, and strengthen visitor experiences. This includes practical workshops, one-on-one coaching, expert guidance, and opportunities to test and improve experiences before bringing them to market. Whether a business is starting with a new idea or looking to enhance something already underway, the program offers the tools, encouragement, and support to help move that experience forward.

This work also connects directly to Destination BC’s The Great Wilderness and The Infinite Coast Iconics, which highlight the powerful landscapes, communities, and travel experiences that make Northern BC so distinctive. By supporting experience development along the corridors, Beyond the Horizon 2.0 will help bring these Iconics to life through real, bookable, locally rooted visitor experiences.

At its heart, the program is about celebrating what makes Northern BC remarkable and helping local operators share it with the world. The most compelling travel experiences are often built from the things communities know best: local knowledge, personal stories, hidden gems, cultural connections, natural places, and the people who call this region home.

Beyond the Horizon 2.0 will support three sub-regional cohorts over the course of the program, with expert facilitators working alongside participants to identify opportunities, shape ideas, build confidence, and strengthen market readiness. The program will take a community-informed approach, recognizing that each part of the corridors has its own strengths, visitor opportunities, and sense of place.

The launch of Beyond the Horizon 2.0 marks an exciting step forward for tourism experience development in Northern BC. With focused support, regional collaboration, and a shared commitment to growing the visitor economy, this program will help build more vibrant, connected, and compelling experiences across the region.

NBCTA looks forward to working with tourism operators, communities, Indigenous partners, and regional stakeholders as Beyond the Horizon 2.0 gets underway.
