DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT

Targeted Regional Tourism Development Initiative

In early 2021, Northern BC Tourism Association received $2.3 million to invest in regional tourism development.

As part of the Province’s Stronger BC economic recovery plan B.C.’s six tourism regions will receive a total of $13.6 million to create employment opportunities, attract new businesses and spur economic diversification within communities.

Initiatives underway in the northern B.C. tourism region include investing in accessibility adaptations at multiple recreation sites to improve access, implementing a comprehensive place-making signage strategy for the North that includes the installation of approximately $1-million of signage infrastructure, and supporting multiple small First Nations communities to tell their stories through cultural and wayfinding signage.

TRTDI across the province

In total, British Columbia’s six tourism regions have received $13.6 million for 53 tourism projects. The approved projects must be completed by March 2023. Click link below to view the master list of all TRTDI projects underway throughout the province.

Thematic Framework & GNCR Signage Masterplan

We are working with AldrichPears Associates, an interpretive planning and exhibit design firm, on two exciting projects this year. NBCTA’s new initiative builds on the 10-year Destination Development strategies. NBCTA and APA are working closely with Destination BC to ensure this work aligns with the Invest in Iconics Strategy.

Based on that work, we have two projects in support of those objectives. Learn more at the links below.
